Highland Financial Systems, LLC was founded in Seattle, WA for the purpose of developing, marketing, and supporting software tools designed to aid the independent professional. At Highland Financial Systems we believe software tools should be easy to use, provide good end-user value, and fun. wallaby - Highland Financial Systems' first offering - was designed to take the drudgery out of tracking income and expenses for professional realtors.
wallaby is a web-based data entry and reporting system (a Web 2.0 application) designed for agents who need a way to maintain, organize, analyze and report on their income and expenses. No accounting knowledge is required to successfully set up and use Wallaby. The software is preset with the categories agents need, and can be customized to suit individual preferences. Wallaby is available on a subscription basis through participating real estate companies.
The developers of wallaby are Philip Farrar, an accountant, financial consultant and real estate agent, his wife Kathleen, a successful Seattle real estate agent for over 20 years, and Michael Weiss, a software designer and programmer. The Farrar’s marriage revealed the need for an easy way to record income and expense specific to the real estate industry. “In helping Kathleen with her financial management, I realized realtors were really without effective tools to help them maintain accurate records for business management and tax purposes. Our collaboration and combination of expertise led us to develop wallaby.” recalls Farrar. They had observed first hand the need for a simple, direct and flexible way for agents to track their expenses and commissions throughout the year.
Mr. Farrar has over 25 years experience in the design and implementation of financial and accounting systems for small and medium-sized businesses. He spent over a dozen years working in the consulting groups of Big Four accounting firms. Since 1992, he has headed his own consulting firm based in Seattle.
